Made in Dagenham The Musical — A Retrospective

A triumphant celebration of courage, community, and unforgettable theatre — our retrospective on Made in Dagenham The Musical is here.
From the moment audiences stepped into Garboldisham Village Hall this October, they were transported to 1968 Dagenham — a world of grit, humour, and heart. Made in Dagenham The Musical, based on the true story of the Ford sewing machinists’ strike, was more than just a show. It was a rallying cry for equality, a celebration of working-class resilience, and a showcase of the incredible talent within Palgrave Players.
The production ran from 23rd to 25th October 2025, and every night was a full house. Audiences were greeted by front-of-house volunteers in blue Ford overalls, setting the tone for an immersive experience. The programme, styled like a Haynes Manual, was just one of many clever touches that brought the era to life noda.org.uk.
This production was a true team effort. From costume and makeup reflecting 60s styles to the extended stage accommodating a large cast, every detail was thoughtfully executed. Producer Victoria Tofte and Assistant Director Hannah Wells ensured the show ran smoothly, while our backstage crew kept the magic alive behind the scenes.
🌟 Cast & Creative Highlights
Under the direction of Cathal Prendergast, musical direction by Mike Benyon, and choreography by Paris Maben-Hume, the show delivered powerful performances and emotional depth. The cast brought unforgettable characters to life:
Nicola Diggins as Rita O’Grady led the charge with fierce determination and vulnerability, capturing the emotional toll of activism on family life.
Matthew Corry’s rendition of “The Letter” was a standout moment, moving many to tears.
Karen Stephenson’s “Connie’s Song” was another emotional high point, delivered with heartfelt sincerity.
The factory quartet — Holly Brice, Jessica Baldwin, Suzanne Stevens, and Emma Gunter — brought energy and camaraderie to every scene.
The set design featured a 60s kitchen, Parliament backdrops, and a blueprint of a Ford Cortina — all meticulously crafted to reflect the time period. Lighting and sound were expertly balanced, even with the band positioned close to the audience noda.org.uk.
